The late Dr. Larry Webster, D.C., developed the Webster Technique. He identified a connection between a sacral subluxation (pelvic misalignment) and fetal malposition. During his career, Dr. Webster himself claimed a success rate of over 90%, working with approximately 1,000 pregnant women.
What to Expect
It’s important to note that Dr. Spencer doesn’t turn your baby, but improves function and movement. The Webster Technique isn’t a cure for a breech baby or a difficult labor. But by ensuring your pelvis is aligned correctly, your baby will be encouraged to get into the optimal head down position.
The Webster chiropractic adjustment starts the process of realigning the sacrum, which may ease the pull that produces tension in the uterus. Once that tension is removed, your baby has the freedom to follow their instincts and get in the best possible birth position, and may reduce the need for a cesarean section and improve uterine function. Rest assured that this chiropractic technique doesn’t apply external forces on your baby directly. Not only is it comfortable, but it’s incredibly safe and most women find the adjustment very relaxing.
When your baby is in the proper position, you will likely have a shorter labor time, less pushing and not as much need for intervention. Mother and baby may also enjoy better health with less intrauterine constraint.
When to Start Care
We believe that the Webster Technique is the most beneficial when a mom-to-be receives chiropractic care early in her pregnancy. By doing so, she may not need medical intervention in the form of a C-section, forceps or suction.
